Review of Love With Food Tasting Box February 2016

Review for the February 2016 subscription box “Love With Food”, a tasting box for sampling healthy and organic or all-natural products including sweets and snacks.

It’s a happy day for me when that little red “Love With Food” box arrives in the mail and I get to peek inside to see what treats I get to try out this month. Below is my review of the food products I received and sampled in the February tasting box. The theme for this month is “Love is You” and I really have no idea in what way that relates to the foods in the box – oh well. You can find details on the boxes that LoveWithFood.com offers and info on pricing below – plus discounts for ordering your first box! Now on to tasting, eating, and enjoying (and in one case this month, not enjoying!). Here’s my thoughts below:

My Snack Report for the February 2016 LoveWithFood Tasting Box : Theme “Love is You”

Ratings: 4 stars = Super Yummy; 3 stars = Yummy; 2 stars = Meh; 1 star = Yucky

  1. Sea Salt Caramels by Liddabit Sweets — They sent two small caramel candies, each wrapped in white wax paper. Very soft candy with a pure, natural flavor. You can taste the sea salt in each bite, which gives these caramels quite a homemade taste. Good treat – and pleasantly rich tasting. Hubby sampled the second one and agreed with me, saying “good, rich flavor”. *** ½
  2. All Natural Montmorency Cherries : Whole Dried Tart Cherries by Stoneridge Orchards — Yum, each dried cherry is a pop of sweet and tart flavor. I am a fan of dried fruits, but I haven’t often had dried cherries – I love these. The ingredients are simply Montmorency Cherries, Cane Sugar, and Sunflower Oil (the fact that these have sugar in addition to the fruit makes me see these as more of a dessert than snack item). Hubby thought these were “too juicy, too wet for a dried fruit” (but he’s not much of a dried fruit fan). ****
  3. Choco Liege Wafel by Belgian Boys — Melting, rather messy chocolate coating over a spongy, slightly chemically tasting pancake/waffle. Note: it was a very warm February day in California when I tasted this, but the chocolate was definitely too melty. Not bad – but not good either. Hubby said this tasted “a little weird”. **
  4. Milk Chocolate Truffles by Baron Chocolatier — Small chocolate ball (they sent two of these) that I found to have a good, basic chocolate flavor – though nothing particularly special. Hubby said: “A good store chocolate, nothing super special”. So we both totally agreed on this! ***
  5. Power Up Trail Mix by Gourmet Nut : Flavor “Protein Packed” — I love trail mix, this is a pretty basic version with mixed nuts (mostly peanuts, along with some roasted almonds and cashews), raisins, dried cherries, and pumpkin seeds. Has a quite healthy, unsalted flavor. Pretty good. ***
  6. Googly Grape Organic Lollipops by YumEarth — Little grape lollipop with a pack of fruity flavor. Very yummy! ****
  7. Popchips Boardwalk Kettle Corn : Popped Corn Chips — Very crispy corn chip rounds that are really, really yummy! They have a slightly sweet flavoring on them, so I see these as more of an afternoon snack item then a savory chip (even though they look like chips, and crunch like chips, the flavoring is more like kettle popcorn — so I would not eat them as a side dish for, say, a hot dog or hamburger). I love these. ****
  8. Stellar Strawberry Non-Dairy Fruit & Veggie Blend by Ruby Rockets — Unappetizing goop (I don’t really know how else to describe this!) styled as an alternative to yogurt. This looked bad, had a weird texture (not to mention color) and simply tasted strange. This also had an unappealing, lingering aftertaste. Just – no. *
